We just started working on our new video for SPDSC & Lipelis ! it’s Coming out Soon

Были на нашей импровизированной студии… Разбирали конструкции и просто убирались. заодно все пофотали и решили написать небольшой постик о том как все это снималось.

Все началось со звонка нашего хорошего друга из Санкт-Петербурга  http://spdsc.tumblr.com Ему понравилась наша первая работа jely beer’ры и он попросил использовать ее в качестве клипа на LoveSpin.

Мы отказали ему …

И предложили снять новую анимацию для клипа на этот замечательный трек)

Дальше были мысли, фантазии и обсуждения.

Все записали, обсудили, нарисовали … Идея с вертаком пришла сразу и не вызывала никаких сомнений. Сложнее, как нам казалось, сделать чтобы все появлялось и исчезало за цветком, только за цветком. Как будет идти человек мы вообще тогда не думали) Просто “он пойдет” и все) Дальше начались расчеты и постройка конструкций.

Снимать все на яблоке виниловой пластинки было просто невозможно. Решили сделать БОЛЬШУЮ виниловую пластинку. Взяли лист фанеры, вырезали, покрасили. Механизмом, за счет которого сея конструкция вертелась, был перевернутый офисный стул) Свет смастерили из 500 ватного прожектора поставленного на вешалку. Чтобы отсчитывать кадры, на торце нашей “пластинки” сделали отметины через каждый сантиметр. Получилось 300. Сразу решили делать 15 кадров в секунду, чтобы движения были плавнее. Сверху (этого нет на фотографиях, так как мы сняли все сразу после съемок) на скотче горизонтально повесили швабру. По ней ездили облака и был закреплен человек.

Тут же было решено, что человек будет шагать в бит. Нужно было посчитать сколько кадров будет длиться один шаг, при скорости 15 кадров в секунду, если трек идет 95 bpm.  Тут возникли сложности, так как ровного числа не получалось. Поэтому мы снимали как для скорости 90 bpm а потом ускорили видео, чтобы шаги совпали с битом. При такой скорости он делал один шаг за 10 кадров.

Был расписан сценарий, когда начинается голос, бит, слова. По времени. Т.е. например музыка с битом и голосом начиналась в 1:13 (73 секунда) при скорости 95 bpm. При 90 это уже было 77 секунд, что умноженное на 15 (15 кадров в секунду) давало 1155 кадр. Именно в этот кадр должно было начать появляться слово LOVE)

В обьщей сложности было сделано почти 4 тысячи кадров)

Под “пластинкой” было удобно держать машинки. Всегда под рукой + не пылятся)

Но самое сложное в итоге оказалось строить декорации. А потом еще их резать на мелкие кусочки … Иначе они бы не исчезали плавно за цветком. Все что осталось от декораций на фотках) Мы не знали как появиться город, ведь он был больше цветка, по этому придумали радугу. На самом деле большая часть была придумана прям на ходу. За 100 кадров до того, как человек должен был встать (треть круга), мы только задумались а как он пойдет)) В итоге он держался на нитке, которая с противовесом держалась на швабре.

Самое грустное, что цветок который был с самого начала (фикус) завял на середине съемок. Это видно на видео, прям перед радугой… Уехали, приехали а он без листьев. Но сейчас ему получше) Считается почётным ветераном и занимает самое лучшее место на подоконнике)

We were at our improvised studio…Taking apart set-up and cleaning. And at the same time we were taking pictures and decided to write a little post about how we made this video. 

It all started with a phone call from our good friend from Saint-Peterburg  http://spdsc.tumblr.com. He really liked our first video “Jelly Beers” so he asked us  if he can use this video for his song “Love Spin”.

We said no…

And offered to make a new animation video for his amazing song)

so we started thinking, imagining, and talking about our ideas. 

We wrote everything down, talked about it, made sketches. Idea with the turntable came to us right away and we didn’t hesitate about it. Harder part, in our opinion, was to make everything appear and disappear behind the plant, only behind the plant. We didn’t even think about how we going to make tiny human to walk. He is going to walk and that’s it) After that we were working on measurements and building the set.

Shooting everything in the middle of vinyl record was impossible, so we decided to build a giant vinyl record. We took a piece of plywood, cut it, and painted it. We used an upside-down office chair to make this piece move just like a record. Lighting was done with 500 watt projector, which was hanging from a hanger. In order for us to count our photo frames we made marks on the outside of our “record” 1 centimeter apart. It came out to 300. At the point we decided to do 15 frames per second. That way everything looks smoother. On the ceiling (you cannot see that on the pictures since we took everything down after we were done filming), using duck tape, we mounted a broom. That broom was used for skies and walking human.

Right away we decided that our tiny human will be walking in beat of the music. We had to figure out how many frames it will take to make one step (human step) with 15 frames per second and speed of 95bpm. This is where we had some problems because we couldn’t come up with a whole number. So we decided to film with the speed of 90bpm and we speed up video so his step was going with the beat. With that speed he was making one step within 10 frames.

We wrote entire storyline; when does voice start, beat, words, etc. Music with beats and voice started at 1:13min (73 seconds) with the speed of 95bpm. With 90bpm it was already 77 seconds, which we had to multiply by 15 (15 frames per second), which gave us 1155 frames total. At that exact frame we had to start putting word LOVE in there. 

We had a total of around 4 thousand frames. 

Under our giant record we kept all the cars. It was very handy, plus they didn’t collect dust.

The hardest part of it all was to build models and decoration. And we had to cut them in little pieces, otherwise they couldn’t disappear behind the plant smoothly. Everything we had left from our models and decor you can see in the pictures. We didn’t know how the city will appear since it was bigger than the actual plant. That is why we came up with the rainbow. We came up with most of the stuff on the go. About 100 frames before our human had to get up with came up with the idea how he is going to walk. At the end he was held by a string that was hanging from a broom. 

The sad part of this project was that our plant died in the middle of filming. You can see that in the video. Right before rainbow comes in the video you can see that the plant is pretty much dead. We left the town, and after we got back our plant had to leafs. But our plant is doing better now. Our plant is respected veteran of our project and has the best place on our window sill. :)
